One of the many benefits of being a member of the Red Rose Coin Club is having the opportunity to learn more about our wonderful hobby through educational presentations at our club meetings. Club members as well as nationally known guest speakers volunteer to present fascinating educational programs for the benefit of our membership. February 5, 2007 - "Granite Lady"February 15, 2007 - "1904 St Louis World's Fair Memorabilia"
March 5, 2007 - "The Atglen & Susquehanna: Lancaster County's Low Grade Railroad" - At the beginning of the 20th Century, the Pennsylvania Railroad was facing a crisis. The railroad's Main Line from Harrisburg east to Philadelphia and New York was becoming choked with ever increasing numbers of passenger and freight trains. The PRR solved this by building an entirely new 'low grade' route dedicated to freight trains which resulted in the Main Line being used primarily for passenger trains. The speaker will cover the 80 year history of the low grade line from its construction through its WWII peak to the point where Conrail ceased using it. The 'low grade' RR is the focus of the Red Rose Coin Club's 2007 medal.

December 4, 2006 - "Haven't I Seen You Before" - A look at how numerous designs from numismatic items have been repeatedly used in other places.November 6, 2006 - "What Are These Things and What Are They Doing On Coins" - An examination of the die making process and how unusual features can be found on coins because of how the dies were made and prepared.
October 19, 2006 - "A Souvenir of Two Cities" - A study of a 'medal' made of graphite in Pennsylvania to celebrate a 1906 streetcar convention held in Denver, Colorado.
October 2, 2006 - "Varieties You Know by Heart and Some That You Probably Don't Know, but Should" - A look at well known varieties of coins such as the 1883 Liberty V nickels without 'Cents' and the variety with Cents on the reverse as well as varieties within the series that are less well known such as the change in 1901 to the Liberty V nickel involving the length of the leaf above the V on the reverse.
September 4, 2006 - "A Year of Looking for Gold in Mexico" - A collector working on a world set of coins issued/dated during his birth year searches for an elusive Mexican gold coin that is needed for his set.
August 17, 2006 - " Metal Detecting"
August 7, 2006 - "U.S. Trade Dollars - History and Varieties" - A study of the reasons why this fascinating US coin came to be. Learn about 'The Crime of 1873', the silver mining interests and America's need for a Trade Dollar. While this issue was short lived - it was only issued for circulation from 1873 through 1878 - there are many varieties available for the collector. Learn about the Type 1 and Type 2 Obverses and Reverses found on this coin along with the newly discovered Type 1.5 Obverse. In addition, many lesser known varieties will be discussed including mintmark sizes and locations, doubled dies, broken letters and other varieties to collect.

June 15, 2006 - "The History of Minting Technology" - This is certain to be a fascinating program illustrated with slides that surveys minting technology (the equipment and tools used to make coins) from ancient times to today.
June 5, 2006 - "The Only Good Indian Is a 'D' Indian" - The unusual, the rare, the scarce varieties of Indian Head Cents: the plain & fancy, the open & closed; the pain in the necks, the pick ax, the jeweled forehead. The men involved in the Indian Head Cents and how Lancaster County contributed to the Indian Head Cents.
May 18, 2006 - Ben Maddesi and Caesar Rufo, the designer and sculptor of the current Red Rose Coin Club medal discuss the process of making a coin club medal.
May 1, 2006 - "Benjamin Franklin" - In celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of one of our greatest founding fathers, hear a talk that covers the life and accomplishments of Ben Franklin. Of course, many numismatic angles are also presented from his printing of colonial currency all the way to the present day commemorative silver dollars recently issued by the US Mint that honor his role as a scientist and as a founding father.
April 3, 2006 - Joe Fitzgerald, the designer of the 2005 nickel will give a presentation describing his selection by the US Mint as an artist and how his designs ended up on our nations coinage.

February 16, 2006 - "250th Anniversary of Lititz Celebration" - A look back at the founding and history of Lititz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania which is the subject of the Red Rose Coin Club's 2006 medal.
